PANELISTS
Rosalind Gregory-Bass
Associate Professor and Chair in the Environmental and Health Sciences Department & Director of the Health Careers Program, Spelman College
Dr. Rosalind Gregory-Bass is an associate professor and chair in the Environmental and Health Sciences Department and is also the director of the health careers program at Spelman College. She received her M.D. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison Medical School, completed an internal medicine internship at Union Memorial Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland, and a residency in physical medicine and rehabilitation at Eastern Virginia Medical School. In her last year of residency, she became the department’s first African American chief resident. Never losing sight of her first two loves, research and teaching, she began a postdoctoral research fellowship at Morehouse School of Medicine in Atlanta. Her basic science and clinical research interests to date focus on women’s health and development of pipeline programs that foster biomedical graduate and professional educational opportunities for women of color.
Misty Huacuja-LaPointe
Director of Pre-Professional Advising, University of Illinois Chicago (UIC)
Misty Huacuja-LaPointe is the director of pre-professional advising at the University of Illinois Chicago, an urban, public Research I university which is federally designated as a Minority Serving Institution (MSI). More recently, UIC has been named a member of the University Innovation Alliance, a national coalition of public universities working to boost student success and social mobility. Misty joined UIC in 2015 after serving as the director of pre-health advising at Brandeis University. Prior to her work in pre-health advising, Misty's career included undergraduate and graduate admissions and recruitment, as well as academic advising and student support. She received her bachelor's degree from Grinnell College and her M.Ed. from Iowa State University. As a first-generation college student herself, Misty is proud to be a part of the team that supports UIC students on their path to success.
Brittany Wampler
Director of All Access License, Kaplan
Brittany Wampler is an innovative leader in higher education, with a career devoted to expanding access and career readiness for students nationwide. Currently, as the director of All Access at Kaplan, she champions solutions that bridge academic preparation with real-world skills, supporting institutions across the U.S. in fostering comprehensive student success. Brittany’s 18 years in public higher education at institutions such as Kent State, Miami University, The University of Akron and Cleveland State University have been marked by a steadfast commitment to student-centered strategies.
Jane Byrnes
Health Professions Advising Manager, Colorado College
Jane is a Michigan native who attended Central Michigan University for her undergraduate degree in recreational therapy and a Master's degree in health administration. She worked for several years in out-patient rehabilitation working with patients who endured traumatic brain injuries, and she eventually ran outpatient pain management programs for patients with chronic pain conditions. She was also an adjunct faculty member at the University of Phoenix, Colorado Campus. Jane has been the health professions advising manager at Colorado College for seventeen years and loves that she has the opportunity to blend her two career interests—healthcare and education—in her role. She is very active in the National (and Western) Association of Advisors for the Health Professions - NAAHP and WAAHP. Her hobbies include camping, boating, traveling, cooking and spending time with her husband and three adult children.
